TRESemmé Botanic Cleansing Conditioner

Last week I took my braids out and I was utterly stunned to see how much my hair has grown. I mean sure when my hair was blown out I could see the length but it was for such a short space of time that I was only properly shook last week. Anyway, seeing the length made me hesitant to wash my hair because you all know, natural hair shrinkage is a real thing. And besides shrinkage, breakage from combing out the knots, followed by dryness of the scalp after shampooing the hair is also a reality. All of which I was not ready or in the mood for. I literally left my hair as is overnight — but the funniest and strangest thing happened, I had a recurring dream of washing my hair with the TRESemmé Botanic Cleansing Conditioner — no joke.

I had received this conditioner the week before from our beloved Rubybox to test and review. I have never known TRESemmé to cater for natural girls like me so I was intrigued and excited to try it out. Evidently so excited I dreamt about it. Anyway, after getting myself the Oval Bamboo Pin Hairbrush from The Body Shop, I was less reluctant to comb my hair before the wash. It’s always key for me to comb the knots out after taking out braids before I wash, I just find it makes the washing process easier, quicker and more effective. The pin brush is also great for natural hair and way more gentle than the afro-comb I find. Once the fro was all brushed out I hopped into the shower to have my first TRESemmé experience — I was definitely hyped for this product, evidently, for good reason. This new cleansing conditioner is shampoo-free but still effectively cleanses and refreshes your hair without stripping or depleting all of its natural oils and nutrients. And because it’s a co-wash, it skips the sulphates that are mainly found in shampoos — instead it uses a conditioning formula to gently cleanse from scalp to hair. With Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera — the Botanic Cleansing Conditioner is perfect for ladies on a natural hair journey and ideal for dense curls. After washing my hair and letting it air dry I was outchea feeling the cleanness of my hair and scalp without any dryness whatsoever. My hair felt adequately moisturised, had that nice sheen to it, and was manageable [usually after shampooing, my hair and scalp is so dry and only easer to manage after moisturising — in this case, I only sprayed some wild argon oil on for extra sheen]. I am significantly impressed with this new addition to the TRESemmé family.

But is she vegan/ cruelty-free though? Unfortunately she is not. TRESemmé is under the Unilever parent brand — and yes, you guessed it, Unilever is not cruelty-free. This is really disheartening for me because I LOVE this cleansing conditioner and definitely want to continue using it well after my current bottle is done. All I’m saying is, Unilever, TRESemmé, make with the going cruelty-free quick fast! Please and thank you.
